Adeniyi Commends Trade Modernisation Project for Enhancing Customs Technological Advancement
The Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Tariff and Trade, DCG Umar Adeniyi, has lauded the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) for its significant contribution to the technological advancement of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Speaking at a recent event, Adeniyi emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to enhance customs clearing operations and facilitate trade. He noted that the TMP has been instrumental in improving the NCS’s ability to process imports and exports efficiently.
The TMP was acknowledged for its effort in facilitating ICT-driven customs processes and supporting the deployment of the newly developed B-Odogwu application. This innovative system is designed to enhance trade facilitation and streamline customs procedures.
The Trade Modernisation Project, which is part of the Nigerian government’s efforts to enhance trade facilitation, has introduced various technological innovations aimed at streamlining customs procedures. These innovations include the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) and the Nigeria Customs Integrated System (NICIS).
As the NCS continues to leverage technology to enhance its operations, it is essential for clearing agents, freight forwarders, and importers/exporters to stay informed about the latest developments and innovations in customs procedures.
By working together, stakeholders in the trade industry can harness the benefits of technological advancement to facilitate trade, reduce costs, and enhance the overall efficiency of Nigeria’s import and export processes.
